Police seize explosives in Taguig

Quezon City (18 October) -- TWO bars of high-grade Trinitrotoluene or TNT with defense department markings and other ordnance were found in a parked truck in Taguig, a police official said.

Taguig police chief, Superintendent Alfred Corpus, said the explosives were in a box placed in a soft drink delivery truck parked at Phase !, EP Housing, Western Bicutan.

The box also contained empty shells and magazines for various firearms, as well as smoke grenades.

The TNT was marked DND, which stands for had markings for the Department of National Defense, said Corpus.TNT is not commercially available.

Corpus said they are investigating who left the package in the truck.

He said an identification card was found near the package but refused to elaborate.

When asked if the seized explosives have something to do with rumors about an impending attack on a Metro Manila mall, Corpus said they were not discounting the possibility.

"That is possible. It is too early to conclude. But if that is the case, we have preempted what could have been a big accident," said Corpus, who described TNT as capable of creating great damage. (PIA) [top]
