DSWD Kalinga conducts pre-marriage counseling

TABUK, Kalinga (19 October) -- Committed in producing a more productive citizenry the national government had mandate all concerned agencies to strategize appropriate program and projects geared towards an empowered citizenry.
As part of their strategy, the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWD) under its PSWD Officer Digna Dalutag recently held a five-day pre-marriage counseling training from October 9 to 13, 2006.
In her message, Dalutag underscored the importance of proper preparation before marriage stating that the stability of Filipino families lies in the strength of the ties that binds couples together.
"The Filipino family today faces many challenges that are threatening the stability of the fundamental unit of our society," she said.
She explained that the rising criminality, insidious influences of drug abuse- continuous erosion of moral values, economic crisis and even conflict within the family itself have affected a lot of families.
As a measure to promote the welfare of the Filipino marriages, the government is regularly conducting pre-marriage counseling ensuring harmonious relationship and healthy family members, she said.
Said project is one among the interventions of marriage counseling service provided to couples applying for marriage license where one or both parties are below 25 years of age pursuant to Art 15 of the Family Code.
It aims to provide would-be-couples with a basis for making an informed and responsible decision, gain beginning appreciation of personhood or self-worth, acquire information on areas of maturity for marriage, the obligation of marriage, marital growth process and family
The Pre-Marriage Counseling team is composed of representatives from different agencies like Social welfare Agriculture, Health, Popcom, and the Local Civil Registrar. (PIA-Kalinga) [top]
