Labason town celebrates children's month
By Abundio Puro
Dipolog City (19 October) -- "Nurture your children well. Give them love, care, moral and spiritual support. Above all, send them to school to have better education for their own good."
This was the message of Mayor Wilfredo S. Balais of Labason town to the parents attending the kickoff program for the observance of the universal children's month yesterday.
Balais bared that his leadership has been biased for children as the municipality is now pursuing the "Child-friendly Program." In fact, he said, Labason emerged as the regional winner in the search for most child-friendly municipality conducted last August.
Balais also urged his constituents to give their all-out support to the municipality's child-friendly program in its bid to win in the national level competitions next year.
More than 1,089 toddlers and parents participated in the kickoff program which started with a parade around the poblacion area, followed by a thanksgiving mass, playground demonstration and induction of Parents Committee Federation officers.
This year's celebration is anchored on the theme, "Bright child: Yaman ng pamilya, yaman ng bansa" (Bright child: Wealth of the family, wealth of the nation).
To add color to the children's month celebration, a municipal children's congress will be held on October 20, a search for Little Miss Labason '06 on October 25 and a provincial children's congress on October 27.
Other municipal officials like Vice Mayor Isabel Brillantes, Social Welfare Officer Catherine Balais and councilor Marites Tanade-Desierto were also present in the kickoff program. (Labason PIO/PIA) [top]
