PCPD, POPCOM conduct on-the-spot essay writing contest

Tacloban City (19 October) - One of the activities of the Commission on Population (POPCOM) through its OIC-Regional Director Susan Tejada in coordination with the Philippine Center for Population and Development (PCPD) relative to POPCOM's on-going Adolescent Health and Youth Development Program is the conduct of an On-the Spot Essay Writing Contest.
According to sources from POPCOM, the Writing Contest which will be conducted in the afternoon of October 19, 2006 will be held at the Regional Population Office 8, Government Center, Candahug, Palo, Leyte.
The specific theme for the Essay Writing Contest will be related to the theme used in the 2006 World Population Day Celebration which is "Pinoy Youth Empowerment for Health and Development".
Some twenty (20) third year high school students coming from different schools here in Tacloban signified to join the Essay Writing Contest. Cash prizes and Certificates of Recognition await the declared top three winners of the contest.
Meanwhile, the Adolescent Health and Youth Development Program is funded by the United Nations Population Fund. The project is POPCOM's response to the growing awareness worldwide on the reproductive health issues and concerns of the youth and their significant contributions to future population and health trends.
