Calabarzon observes Children's Month with "Bright Child"

Lucena City (20 October) -- In line with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's agenda for the promotion of children's rights, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Regional Development Council (RDC)-Region IV-A, Regional Sub-Committee for the Welfare of Children(RSCWC), the Philippine Information Agency (PIA), Local Government Units (LGUs) of CALABARZON and other government line agencies will conduct a Children's summit at Enchanted Kingdom, Sta. Rosa, Laguna this October 25.

The activity is in connection with the commemoration of Children's Month. In the past years, the United Nation Children's Fund (UNICEF) have been advocating for the promotion of the rights of children, among their programs are the conduct of Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).

Through the CRC, numerous programs and services were implemented and a significant number of laws had been passed to promote the rights of children's.

The Philippines as a state party to the CRC is committed to support and promote the rights of the children in areas of survival, development, protection and participation through the passage of laws and formulation of policies which will ultimately benefit the children.

Recently, the country has adopted the Child-Friendly Movement (CFM) as a strategy to ensure the rights of the children's are being promoted through the implementation of programs and services provided for by the different agencies at the national, regional and local level.

The children's summit is also an opportunity for the children to air their concern to the local officials, law makers and other concerned agencies and for the said officials to respond to the issues raised by the children.

The organizer of the event expects that the said activity will be fruitful, not only to the children but also to the local executives. (PIA-MMIO) [top]
