Baguio expert warns families of criminal liability for letting loose members with mental disability
Baguio City (23 October) -- Families are criminally liable for not attending to a family member with mental disability that were left roaming in public places around the city.
Baguio General Hospital (BGH) Psychiatric Ward Chief Dr. Hilda Wong said under the family code, these psychotic patients should be at the own lookout of family members not the government.
This cropped up during the CARE Kapihan in celebration of the Mental Health Prevention week at the Philippine Mental Health Association (PMHA) office.
Wong explained that the government is doing its share to help these patients, however, family members should also do their part because it is becoming a cycle that a patient were left unattended after being treated in the hospital.
Patients should have a continuous medication in order to prevent the illness from recurring, Wong said.
She said this illness starts from a mere depression which is either caused biologically or psychosocially. (PIA) [top]
