DOH-XIII to launch disease-free zone in Caraga

BUTUAN CITY (October 23) -- The Department of Health (DOH) Center for Health Development (CHD) Caraga will launch the "Disease-Free Zone" Implementation Strategy on October 27 in one of the local convention centers here.
In a written statement, Regional Director Leonita Gorgolon of DOH-Caraga said the activity is an approach to make some barangays, municipalities, provinces and cities in Caraga disease disease-free areas on certain diseases such as Malaria, Schistosomiasis, Filaria, Rabies, Leprosy and if possible, Tuberculosis.
Also during the "Garantisadong Pambata" (GP) press conference conducted recently, Dir. Gorgolon informed the local media that at present, Caraga region is free from any diseases mentioned above. "This means that the GP program of the national government that has been implemented for the past four years creates positive result", Dir. Gorgolon said.
Meanwhile, DOH conducted the GP program here last week where delivery of package of health services to children ages 0-71 month old with the purpose of reducing morbidity and mortality among the under-six through the promotion of positive Filipino values for proper growth and development.
GP is a program of the DOH in partnership with the Local Government Units and other government and non-government organizations whose main goal is to eliminate Vitamin A deficiency as Public Health Problem. (PIA-13) [top]
