Commentary: Respect the Supreme Court’s integrity and independence
Tacloban City (October 23) -- The insinuations of some people that the Supreme Court is being pressured by the Palace, is another dirty ploy being undertaken by the desperate noisemakers.
To say that the Palace is making pressure on the court is an insult to the intelligence of the Men of Robes. The Administration has always respected the integrity and the independence of the Supreme Court. Time and again, the Palace has proven that it conditionally upholds the decisions of the Supreme Court whether or not it is favorable.
The political hullabaloo of the opposition and other Administration detractors is but a broken record that does not catch the sympathy of the people.
The Administration continues to exercise prudence and strong political will in the pursuit of the vision of political reforms. It has never interfered will the democratic processes and it never will.
The fact remains that Constitutional Reform is part of the agenda of the Administration. In fact, it was a campaign agenda of the President as she truly believes that this will be for the interest of the country and of the people.
The fact that people voted for her as President is a sign that people also want a change in the Charter.
There is a clamor for a change in the entire Philippine socio-political and economic system by the more than six million Filipinos all over the country.
Although the public will always respect the decision of the Supreme Court, the public remains confident that the high magistrates will not turn deaf ears to the will of the people.
It is hoped that the Supreme Court decision regarding the Charter Change will be the product of their enlightened judgment without the influence or pressure from any sector.
In the meantime, it is prayed that all sectors give the Supreme Court the respect and dignity to be able to make its judgment on the issue in peace and in the best interest of the Filipino nation. (PIA 8) [top]
