Military captures suspected Albay NPA leader
TABACO CITY (24 October) -- An alleged top-ranking official of the New People's Army in Albay was arrested by a joint force of the Philippine Army's Military Intelligence Group (MIG) and the local police in downtown Tabaco Sunday morning., the military said.
Crisanto Ceriola, 27, also known as "Ka Russel" and "Ka Bong," was with his wife Agnes Camacho and a companion identified as Felipe Belarde, when caught outside the Fremas photo studio and gave up to the military and police operatives after a short scuffle.
According to MIG records, Ceriola is the number two man of the Sentrong Depensang Grupo-Front Committee Pluto under the leadership of Eduardo Sevilla aka "Ka Diego" and "Ka Palong," which operates in the towns of Malinao, Tiwi, Malilipot, Bacacay, Tabaco City and parts of Polangui, all in Albay.
2nd Lieutenant Ryan Chavez, MIG team leader, immediately coordinated with the local police here after his men spotted Ceriola inside a department store.
Chavez said Ceriola’s arrest was made on the strength of two warrants issued by two Albay courts on murder charges.
Recovered from him were a caliber .45 pistol and a hand grenade while another hand grenade was recovered from his wife, Chavez said. Other items recovered included a cell phone with camera, P10,000 cash, groceries and a Yamaha motorcycle with plate number ET-2478.
Aside from the two murder cases filed against him, Ceriola has also been tagged a
suspect in the killing of Gerry Broncano on February 1, 2006 ; Luis Broncate and Efren Capuz, all of Barangay Sua in Malinao town; Danilo Capil of Ogob, Malinao; and Alfredo Borromeo of Sua-Igot in this city, intelligence reports said. (PIA) [top]
