Leyte Gulf Landings Pintados School band competition draws crowd from all over Region 8

Tacloban City (October 24) -- The Pintados School Band Competition participated by fifteen elementary and high schools all over the Region drew a big crowd at the RTR Plaza in the afternoon of October 20.

The competition is composed of two divisions, the junior category for the elementary school bands and the senior division for the high school bands.

The St. Therese Educational Foundation of Tacloban Inc. Band emerged as champion in the Junior Division, winning P20,000 aside from the trophy. The second place was bagged by the Tanauan II Elementary School Band winning P15,000.00 plus trophy. The Rizal Elementary School Band of Tacloban City went home with the third prize of P10,000 plus trophy.

Coming all the way from the province of Biliran, the Naval Institute of Technology Band won the championship trophy and the cash prize of P20,000 in the Senior Division. The Abuyog Academy received the second prize of P15,000 plus trophy while coming in close as third place was the Palompon Institute of Technology which went home with a trophy and P10,000 cash prize.

Each of the other competing school bands received P2,000 consolation prize courtesy of Leyte first district Congresswoman Remedios L. Petilla and Leyte Governor Carlos Jericho Petilla.

Congresswoman Petilla who was present during the competition congratulated the organizers, the Pintados Foundation for the successful holding of the school band competition. She also expressed hope that the same activity will again be conducted next year as it will encourage the students and the school administrators in different schools of the Region to really hone their homegrown talents.

The entries participated in the civic military parade which ended at the RTR Plaza before the competition started at the RTR Plaza. (PIA 8) [top]
