PIA Press Release

CCP-NPA purgings persist, says military

Tacloban City (October 24) -- The notorious CPP-NPA terrorists persist in their purging operations, the military reports. This statement is based on the report that two more former NPA members and sympathizers became victims of summary executions by the NPA.

The victims of the purging were identified as Mario Singson, 38 years old, a kagawad of Barangay Mahayag, Ormoc City and Renato Singson, 25 years old, the nephew of the former.

The same report stated that on or about 10:30 in the evening of October 10, 2006, the victims together with their wives were on their way home from Barangay Mahayag to Sitio Patining of the same barangay, when a group of unidentified men wearing bonnets and armed with pistol stopped them.

The suspects separated the women from the two men and started shooting at the victims who died on the spot due to multiple gun shot wounds. The suspects fled towards unknown directions while the two women immediately reported the incident to the military patrol based at Barangay Donghol, Ormoc City.

SSgt Aban, the team leader of the troops in Donghol Patrol base immediately informed 2Lt Malinche Y. Tomarong, CMO Officer of this unit regarding the incident. Subsequently at 11:45 in the evening, 2Lt. Hoseña based in Brgy. Mahayag was directed to proceed to the site while Ssgt. Aban of Donghol patrol base was tasked to conduct check point operations in all entry and exit points of the place of incident.

The two victims were allegedly former members of Barangay Organization Party (BOP), a basic organization created by the Communist Terrorists in a barangay when it reaches the level of an “Influence” status.

The two has earlier voluntarily surrendered to the troops of 19th IB presently located in both Barangays of Mahayag and Donghol all of Ormoc City. They revealed that the barrios were indeed organized and controlled by the Communist Terrorists based on their revelations sometime from year 2000 up to 2005.

The two victims also served as members of the barangay militia and they participated in making several tunnels for the Communist Terrorists to use as their encampments. They also served as collectors of agricultural products and money from the farmers as Revolutionary taxes.

Because of their surrender and subsequent cooperation with the troops of 19th IB, the victims revealed the existence of several camps in Bgy. Mahayag and guided the troops towards their location. Through their cooperations, the troops have so far discovered and destroyed nine (9) Communist Terrorist camps of varying sizes.

It is not a surprise they got the ire of the communist terrorists which resulted in the purging. The NPAs are just too happy to kill their former comrades or supporters. After all, this is just a continuation of their “Operation Venereal Disease” responsible for the death of hundreds of their comrades, supporters, and even innocent civilians in the hinterlands of Inopacan, Leyte, in a place they called “The Garden”. It was a telling demonstration of how the communist terrorist can be so brutal to mankind that all civilized and peace-loving communities so extremely abhor, the military report added.

The military is convinced that the military unit is hitting the critical point of the CTs revolutionary struggle – deprivation from their masses/supporters at their own guerilla bases. The CCP-NPAs are badly affected as it is their gateway to Ormoc City, the source of their financial and logistical resources.

Lt. Col. Dagoy, the commanding officer of the 19th Infantry Battalion said that the 19th IB Commando troopers will see to it that they will be denied of their access to the City the way they used to enjoy it. This is all part of the move to dismantle the Northern Leyte Front (NLF) and achieved an irreversible point in the campaign against the Communist Terrorists, he said. “I will sustain this momentum until I knock them out”, he added.
