Agri facilities, inputs extended to vegetable farmers in Agusan Sur
Agusan del Sur (October 25) -- Some P60,000 worth of check along with vegetable seeds, fertilizers, and three units of power sprayers were recently turned over to vegetable farmers in Esperanza thru their cooperative under the program Dubbed as Support to Emergency and Livelihood Assistance Program (SELAP) of the Department of Agriculture.
According to reports from the Provincial Agriculture Office, members of Beawan Vegetable Growers Multi-purpose Cooperative said that the extended facilities and other inputs will boost their vegetable production, while the cash assistance will be used for the buy and sell projects of the coop members.
Oscar Jurado, Information Officer of the Provincial Agriculture Office said that their record shows that the area planted with vegetables such as eggplant, ampalaya, upo, squash, beans, tomato and patola in Sitio Beawan covers 27 hectares.
Jurado added that the cooperative is now working on the process produce and market organically grown vegetables. He added that coop members even plan to ink agreements with the farmers whose areas are under the Convergence Development Program for bigger production.
During the turn over ceremony in Dagutan, Esperanza, prominent personalities from the Agriculture Office like Regional Technical Director Edgardo Dahino, PA Max Gegato, Jr., and MAO Jose Zaldy Manug, along with provincial and municipal government employees and barangay officials were present.
