Gen. Santos City (25 October) -- A three-day Job Fair for job seekers in the ICT industry will be held on Oct. 26-28, 2006 at the Mallway of KCC Mall. This is in line with the e-Business Week Celebration and in support to the current administration's thrust to create 10-Million jobs as one of its 10-point agenda.

Gen. Santos produces over 4,000 graduates annually and many among them wish to land a job in the IT industry because of the vast opportunities it promises. High paying jobs, high profile careers, and better chances to work abroad, are just a few reasons why they want to be in the dynamic world of Information and Communication Technology.

The significant role of ICT in attaining business and work efficiency resulted to the tremendous growth of this sector giving rise also to the increasing need for human capital.

Head hunters from companies handling backroom operations, content development, call center, and core IT services will recruit workers not only from the field of IT but also from engineering, communications, business and science-related fields of specialization.

Prestigious firms such as Link2Support, G-Com, Six Eleven Global Solutions, SMART Communications, and ABS-CBN hope to employ as much as hundreds of ICT-skilled professionals in Region XII. Two local companies, AMA-CLC College and Perfect Image Photo Plaza will also join the fair to beef up their existing human resources that shall take care of their expansion projects.

Prior to the scheduled e-Job fair, a pre-screening will be done at KCC Mallway on Oct. 19, 2006. Job seekers are advised to bring their resume, transcript of records and other pertinent documents such as certification of previous employment, if any.

The e-Job fair is a collaborative effort of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and ABS-CBN. Organizers not only hope to alleviate unemployment in the region but also envision becoming a major ICT human resource provider in Mindanao. (DTI 12/PIA 12) [top]
