DBP kicks off "Ready, Set, Roro!" interisland race
Manila (25 October) -- State-owned Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) kicked off today its "Ready, Set, Roro!" Interisland Race, a challenging competition spanning the archipelago via the Strong Republic Nautical Highway (SRNH).
Kick-off events were held simultaneously at Kilometer 0 in Rizal Park, and at the Dipolog Plaza in Dipolog City.
Present during the send-off ceremonies were (from left): Media Affairs Undersecretary Martin Crisostomo; DBP president & chief executive officer Reynaldo G. David; Mr. Diosdado "Dato" Arroyo; Atty. Emmanuel Sison, Secretary to the Mayor, City of Manila; and Department of Tourism Project Director Shahlimar Tamano. |
Featuring a series of challenges in various destinations, the 3-day Race begins today, simultaneously in the cities of Manila and Dipolog, and will culminate in a championship challenge in Boracay on October 27. The winning team will receive a prize of P500,000.
DBP's interisland race aims to promote tourism and trade along the SRNH through increased use of the country's Road Roll-On Roll-Off (RoRo) Terminal System. DBP currently provides financing to develop the RRTS under its Sustainable Logistics Development Program (SLDP). Eligible projects include the acquisition and upgrading of RoRo vessels, and the construction and development of RoRo terminals.
The SLDP envisions the efficient movement of goods and people all over the country, and the development of the RRTS is a vital strategy towards stimulating interisland trade and commerce, reducing transport costs, and bringing down the prices of food and services. (DBP/PIA) [top]
