Malacaņang respects SC decision on PI
Manila (25 October) -- Following the Supreme Court's 8-7 vote junking the Peoples' Initiative (PI) seeking to amend the 1987 constitution, Malacaņang announced that it will respect the High Court's decision on the issue.
Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said the Arroyo administration is now looking into the Constitutional Assembly (CON-AS) as an alternative to the junked People's Initiative though a motion for reconsideration is likely to be filed in the hope that the SC will overturn its decision.
Meanwhile, Fernando Peņa, deputy spokesperson of the Sigaw ng Bayan, confirmed in an interview that their group is indeed contemplating on filing a motion for reconsideration, saying "if we review the signatures, it is evident that millions had signed to change the constitution." (PIA-MMIO) [top]
