TESDA chief leads career caravan in Tacloban
Tacloban City (October 25) -- No less than Secretary Augusto "Boboy" Syjuco, the Director General of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) will lead the holding of a Career Caravan in Tacloban.
TESDA 8 Director Juan M. Sabulao Sr. said that the Career Caravan will be held on November 16, 2006 at the Tacloban City Convention Center, Sagkahan, Tacloban City.
Director Sabulao informed that the Career Caravan aims to popularize technical-vocational (tech-voc) jobs and careers. It also hopes to gain public buy-in for tech-voc as an empowering mechanism and to make tech-voc a primary career option.
Moreover, the Career Caravan, Director Sabulao added, aims to bring the message to the public that tech-voc education and training (TVET) leads to jobs.
Among the expected participants, Director Sabulao informed, are third and fourth year high school students from public schools in Tacloban City, students from the private technical-vocational institutions (PTVIs), Regional Technical Education and Skills Development Committee (RSTESDC) members, SUC Presidents and PTVI administrators, Parents-Teachers Association and community associations.
Among the activities which will be conducted during the caravan are the Career Guidance Orientation and Services, and the awarding of Ladderized Education Program (LEP) Scholarship Certificates and Training Coupons under the PGMA-Training for Work Scholarship Project.
Director Sabulao added that also included in the activities during the Caravan are the Awarding of Ladderized Education Program (LEP) Scholarship Certificates for Ladderized Program, Job Fair and Trade Fair on Dangal ng Barangay Products.
Competency assessment in selected trade areas will be conducted and free assessment to applicants for call center agents will also be made available, Director Sabulao added.
In order to assist in TESDA's advocacy efforts, Director Sabulao is enjoining the government agencies to hang a promotional streamer in their respective office entrances or gates. (PIA 8) [top]
