DOST gives P3.8 million worth of equipment, facilities to Quirino furniture makers

AGLIPAY, Quirino (26 October) -- Furniture makers in this province recently received facilities and equipments worth P3.8 million from the Department of Science and Technology(DOST) to improve and enhance their productivity.

The equipment and facility, a 20,000 board feet capacity lumber drying machine and a mini-saw mill were handed to 68 furniture shop owners here whose livelihood depends on the province's rich forest products.

Acting DOST regional director Urduja Tejada expressed optimism that the facilities would help local wood manufacturers in improving the quality of their products.

With the facilities, the furniture makers' group, Palacian Economic Development Association, Inc. (PEDAI) can charge service fees of P4.71 per board foot for sawmilling and P6.68 per board foot for kiln drying, Urduja said.

The assistance were granted through DOST's Technology Application and Promotions Institute(TAPI) venture financing program.

Venture financing is one of the programs of TAPI to upgrade production and enhance the productivity of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the country through the provision of no-interest loans. (PIA NVizcaya) [top]
