BJMP 12 celebrates 12th NCCW

Koronadal City (26 October) -- Bureau of Jail Management & Penology director S/Supt Emmanuel Sicio led the weeklong observance of National Correctional Consciousness Week here on October 22 to October 29, 2006.
Activities in the weeklong celebration in General Santos City was highlighted with a Holy Mass officiated by Rev. Fr. Roberto Wapano, CP on October 22, 2006.
This year's NCCW theme "Healing and Restoring Hope and Dignity to the Community" is hoped to make the community aware of the rehabilitative aspects of correction of the inmates that would eventually help them in their pursuit to rejoin the mainstream of society in due time, director Sicio said.
BJMP 12 CRS & Media Affairs chief BryanRoy Mercado, in a report to the Philippine Information Agency 12 also said that the Philippine jail bureau has evolved with modern penology, "it has shifted from the traditional view of imprisonment as society's retribution against criminal offenders into one which views imprisonment as a humanizing and enriching experience."
Celebration of the NCCW is institutionalized through Proclamation No. 551 signed by then President Fidel V. Ramos declaring the last week of October of every year as "National Correctional Consciousness Week."
The following are the scheduled activities undertaken by BJMP 12 for the week: October 23-Sports Festival, Parole and Probation Symposium, Tree-Planting, Poster-Making Contest, Opening of Trade Fair, Beautification and Cleanliness Drive and Hataw Contest; October 24-Health and Legal Services, IBP Information Drive and Inter-Faith Concert; October 25-Continuation of Sports Activities, Rock-rakan sa Piitan, Disco; October 26-Amateur Singing Contest, Ballroom Dance Showdown; October 27-Medical and Dental Mission, Sanitation Seminar and Videoke Challenge; October 28-Family Day, Parlor Games and the Search for Bulaklak ng City Jail; October 29-Culmination Day, Closing Program and Awarding of Prizes.
