DAR accepts Pagnas plateau applicants for land titling

by Rebecca Cadavos

Southern Leyte (26 October) -- The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) conducted a screening of applicants for homestead patent at Pagnas Palteau at Brgy. Panda, Liloan town recently, Angeli C. Kaindoy DAR Public Information Officer designate reported during an interview held last Monday, October 23.

Pagnas Plateau Task Force screening committee through their technical working group (TWG) was composed of Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), (1) non-government organization and DAR who reconciled with the lists of applicants who are qualified to be given the homestead patent, Kaindoy revealed.

It was learned that Pagnas Plateau was not yet titled for about 14 years but because of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between DENR and DAR signed last January 2006 yet, titling of the land will be made faster and easier. DENR will facilitate the processing of the Homestead Patent and DAR office on the other hand will help in the support services like road development, potable water supply, among others, Kaindoy said.

The task force will screen the applicants categorized into 4, from priority 1 to priority IV. Those applicants who are actual tillers of the land or those who cultivated the land will be given priority and others will follow in priority 2 up to 4. As of this writing, there are at least 54 applicants who applied under priority 1.

It was learned that Task Force Pagnas Masagana Neighborhood and Settlers Association. Inc. (PAGNAS) presented the Memorandum of Agreement between the DENR and DAR for the 357 hectares Pagnas/Agrarian Reform Community (ARC) Development Project at Liloan. The MOA presentation was attended by Undersecretaries Manuel D. Geruchi of DENR for Lands and Narciso Nieto of DAR for Field Operations and Support Services who also promise to support and perform their jobs related to Pagnas which at present has 196 stakeholders.

The technical working group will again convene on Friday, October 27 at the municipality of Sogod for other developments regarding the screening of applicants. (PIA) [top]
