NEDA-10 head welcomes UN-ADB citation of RP as MDG ‘early achiever’
Cagayan de Oro City (26 October) -- The government will exert more efforts to meet all the country’s commitments to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) as it welcomed the United Nations’ (UN) recognition of our achievement along the line.
This was stressed by Regional Director Myra V. Balandra of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Region 10 who said the UN, together with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) gave the citation that RP is an ‘early achiever’ in terms of meeting the MDGs.
The MDG, she added, is a set of development goals and targets in eliminating extreme poverty and hunger worldwide by year 2015 which the Philippines adopted to do and signed along with the other member states of the UN in September 2000.
Balandra who sits as Vice-Chairperson of the Regional Development Council (RDC) said implementation of programs and projects to achieve our own national MDG targets will be done by region taking into consideration the prevailing situation of their respective areas. (PIA 10) [top]
