Biogas tech demo farm set up in Balubal
Cagayan de Oro City (26 October) -- In order to lessen pollution and to utilize animal excreta, the city is setting up its demonstration farm of Biogas Technology in Barangay Balubal, this city.
Dr. Perla Asis, officer in charge of City Veterinary Office (CVO) revealed that the Biogas Technology demo farm is the first in the city which is funded by the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Agriculture Research.
Dr. Asis pointed out that the recipient is a farmer in Balubal, Ferdinand Amboy and the said demo farm will be a backyard research area for all the farmers in the city.
She added that the CVO will provide Amboy the necessary technical assistance and technology transfer to ensure success of the said demo farm.
Dr. Asis explained that the biogas technology is very helpful since it can be used directly in cooking, thereby reducing the demand for LPG and firewood. It is also a dependable source of rural energy, providing an alternative source to kerosene, diesel and wood.
The demo farm will start before the year ends and Dr. Asis hopes that with it, the city government can help not only along environment protection but also support the economic activity of farmers as manure byproduct of the biogas technology is a very good fertilizer.
