Cebu education officials to meet US Embassy official today

by Roberto M. Cabardo

Cebu City (27 October) -- Officials of the Department of Education (DepEd) are scheduled to meet a U.S. Embassy Official who is visiting Cebu this morning.

In an interview, Dr. Evangel M. Luminario, Ass't Schools Div. Superintendent said that the department is so thankful for the help the US government has extended to the country’s students and teachers and that she hopes it will continue to be so.

The US Embassy, in a press statement, informed that its Deputy Chief of Mission, Paul W. Jones, is visiting Cebu this morning to tour the U.S.-sponsored programs in Cebu City, meet local government and business officials, and learn more about U.S. business and investments on the island.

First to be visited by the embassy official is the U.S. Peace Corps-sponsored facility known as the Information and Computer Technology (ICT) Provincial Center in Cebu City which is now found in the old provincial jail.

Other than the education officials, media representatives and local government executives and business are also expected to attend the event.

For decades, the Philippines has been a staunch ally of the U.S. that has provided assistance to many sectors of Filipino society. (PIA Cebu) [top]
