Symposium vs. poverty highlights celebration of local governance month in Butuan

by Robert E. Roperos

Butuan City (October 27) -- Three multi-sector organizations have combined their forces to stand up against poverty as portrayed in a symposium conducted recently highlighting the governance month celebration.

These three multi-sector organizations are the office of the Government of the Philippines-United Nations Multi-Donor Programme (GoP-UNDP) on fostering Democratic Governance, University of the Philippines – National College of Public Administration (ASPAP) and Father Saturnino Urios University (FSUU).

The symposium is conducted to raise awareness of various groups on the poverty situation in Caraga region, the strategies and programs to attain the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and to provide opportunity to demonstrate the tri-partnership efforts of the local governments, people’s organizations, and the academe that makes the people’s fight against poverty in the region more responsive.

With the poverty situation in Caraga, strategies and programs to attain the Millennium Development Goals, response initiatives at alleviating the plight of the poor and the marginalized, and the role of the academe in development of the region has been presented during the symposium.

The activity is in line with the efforts of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo as embodied in the MDG of the country particularly in poverty alleviation. (PIA-13) [top]
