Fuente Osmeña rotunda to transform into picnic park for ASEAN spouses

Cebu City (27 October) -- The Fuente Osmeña rotunda will be transformed into a picnic park as spouses of the different heads of states participating in the 12th Asean Summit will be treated to a tour of Cebu City.

Cebu City First Lady Margot Osmeña bared the preparations for the spouses program is 'all systems go' and that six buses for the spouses including their entourage will be used to explore the historical and tourist sights of Cebu City in a half-day tour dubbed "Laag-laag."

A plan to equip the buses with a TV monitor that will be used to ferry the spouses will show a 3-minute video about the Philippines in general was earlier bared.

Osmeña said the spouses will also be entertained with a cultural presentation at the Mactan Shrine where they will have lunch and witness the "Kadaugan sa Mactan," the historical battle between Ferdinand Magellan and Lapulapu which is a significant part of Philippine history.

First Gentleman Mike Arroyo will host an elegant dinner for the spouses at the Malacañang sa Sugbo where a 'Cebu Village' will likely be set up in booths that will display Cebu's best products. Gov. Gwen Garcia on the other hand, has committed to host lunch at the Provincial Capitol Social Hall where a fashion show that will also showcase the world-class fashion's accessories of Cebu will be featured sponsored by the Mandaue City Government.

A Friendship Garden where a permanent marker will commemorate Cebu's hosting of the summit will be done at the Family Park aimed at fostering closer ties with the spouses of the Asean-member countries, according to Osmeña.

Osmeña said they have been preparing for the spouses program since March and that the First Ladies of the three cities of Cebu, Mandaue and Lapulapu are putting their best efforts forward so the spouses of the participating nations will have the best memories of Cebu when they go back to their respective countries.
