Medical experts from Manila lead medical mission in Biliran

Naval, Biliran (28 October) -- Medical experts in the field of obstetrics and gynecology are now in Naval, the capital town of the province of Biliran to conduct a medical mission jointly with the medical doctors and nurses of the Biliran Provincial Hosptial (BPH).

The holding of the two-day medical mission which started yesterday was made possible through the joint sponsorship of Biliran governor Rogelio Espina and Lone District Representative, Congressman Gerardo Espina, Jr. who personally invited the visiting doctors from Manila to render free medical missionary work in the province.

According to Alton Durano, Administrative Officer of the BPH), the medical mission will focus in the treatment of obstetrics and gynecological health patients from all over Biliran province who have problems in this particular area of medicine.

He said that prior to medical mission days, patients were required to visit the BPH for pre-examination, consultation and listing to ensure efficient and effective management of the treatment procedures during the entire duration of the medical mission.

Part of the services rendered by the medical team who are members of the Philippine Obstetrics and Gynecology Society of the Philippines are PAP smear, pre-natal check-up for expectant mothers, ultra-sound examination and adolescent health lectures.

On the first day of the medical mission, patients from the municipality of Naval including those patients from other municipalities in the province which are near Naval, the capital town of Biliran province were served as consultations and treatment were done at the provincial hospital and later in the afternoon, a lecture on adolescent health was conducted to high school students of the Naval Institute of Technology (NIT), the only state college in Biliran province.

As the medical mission came to close today, patients from Almeria, one of the eight municipalities in the province were likewise given free medical service on health problems and health needs where these doctors are experts right at the municipal health office of said municipality..

Members of the team who are experts in dealing with adolescent care and adolescent problems likewise conducted lectures in three high schools in the province namely the Almeria National High School and Tabunan National High School in Almeria town and Naval School of Fisheries in the municipality of Naval.

The medical mission is part of the toal health care program of the provincial government of Biliran through Governor Espina who has a genuine concern of the health of the Biliranons, himself being a medical doctor by profession.

More free medical missions are set to be conducted in the future with medical experts coming from Manila to ensure good health to all Biliranons because Governor Espina believes that healthy Biliranons contribute strongly to the development of the island province of Biliran. (PIA-Biliran) [top]
