Commentary: Anahawan district hospital chief deserves to be commended
Taclobsan City (October 8) -- Dr. Ernesto J. Cahoy, chief of the Anahawan District Hospital is the epitome of a doctor who lives and who is true to the oath of his noble profession.
Observing him during the turn-over of hospital equipments donated by the Rotary World Help Network of Canada, many guests commented on his humble countenance and dedication to his profession.
As Southern Leyte Governor Rosette Lerias said, Dr. Cajoy has been offered good jobs and many promotions but he refused them all because he believed that he could better be of service by remaining at the Anahawan District Hospital .
There were times when Dr. Cajoy was the only doctor in the District Hospital and he had to attend to one patient to another but he never complained, his smile never left his lips, because he is fulfilling the vow of his profession, Governor Lerias said.
The Anahawan District Hospital was projected all over the world during the Guinsaugon tragedy in February. It was at this hospital where many victims and survivors were confined. Dr. Cajoy ably led the hospital staff in tending to the sick and the wounded victims of the tragedy.
That was how the plight of the 50-bed District Hospital was brought to the attention of benevolent people from outside of the Philippines . Dr. Cajoy when he learned about the query on the needs of the hospital lost no time in sending the list. The rest is history as the hospital equipments and supplies were turned over to the hospital on October 26.
While going to the venue of the turnover somewhere at the hospital premises, Dr. Cajoy was approached by a mother worried about his ailing child. Without losing time, Dr. Cajoy made instructions and attended to the sick child.
The good doctor delivered his message and then immediately went back to his patients. The team from Tacloban left without being able to say thank you and goodbye to Doctor Cajoy.
The guests didn’t mind at all. In fact, they were all praises on the doctor. The doctor is really dedicated to his profession. It is best to leave him with the people he cares for best – the sick people of Anahawan and the other municipalities of Panaon Island. (PIA 8) [top]
