Palo East bypass road to be built in 2007
Tacloban City (October 29) -- The Palo East Bypass Road project will be implemented in 2007, ARD Romualdo Baltazar of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Office 8 informed during the Panindugan TV program of the Philippine Information Agency recently.
ARD Aguilar said that the Palo By Pass Road Project is included in the 2007 Budget of the Department of Public Works and Highways. He said that this project will be funded by then.
The Palo East/West By Pass Road Projects which cost P269 Million, are included in the Region 8 Component of the Medium Term Development and Investment Plan of the Central Philippines Super Region which is being envisioned as the Tourism Center of the Philippines.
These By Pass Roads are important, ARD Baltazar said because of the big volume of traffic which will become more congested once the influx of tourists, both local and foreign starts. Besides, there is really a need for an alternate route, he added.
Even these days, there are already traffic congestions in the area especially on the days when the town of Palo celebrates its fiesta and during the Holy Week celebration of the Siete Palabras.
The Department of Public Works and Highways in the Region is responsible for the implementation of the strategic theme 2 of the Medium Term Development and Investment Plan of Region 8, ARD Baltazar said.
Aside from the Palo East/West By Pass Roads, include among the priority programs and major road projects are the Biliran Circumferential Road and Naval Caibiran Road Project; the Leyte-Calubian-San Isidro-Tabango-Villaba and Matag-ob Palompon Road Projects; the St. Bernard-Hinunangan Cross-Country Road; the Panaon Circumferential Road and the Limasawa Circumferential Road.
ARD Baltazar said that the DPWH realize that if the tourism industry is to prosper in the Region, it is important to link the islands through efficient transportation and communication facilities. (PIA 8) [top]
