Cagayan women's club receives fund from DOLE

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (30 October) -- A women's group in Camalaniugan town in Cagayan province recently received livelihood fund from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to further mprove and develop their livelihood projects.

Jerry Nicolas, DOLE regional information officer said a P50,000 livelihood grant was given to the Minanga Women's Club through their Promotion of rural Employment through Self-Employment and Entrepreneurship Development (PRESEED) program.

"This is in furtherance to implement President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's program in helping the economic conditions of various sectors in the countryside," Nicolas explained.

He said the fund assistance will be used by the organization for their banana food production such as cakes, chips and a local delicacy known as 'Tinubong."

According to Nicolas, a portion of the amount will be used for the social preparation activities of the women's organization particularly on entrepreneurship development seminar and skills training on packaging and product testing.

He also expressed hope that the employment programs for women will lessen proverty incidence in the rural areas since they would be empowered to supplement their income for their domestic needs.

Other recipients of the fund assistance were the Zinimila Women's Organization and Casili Rural Improvement Club, all in Camalaniugan town who both received P50,000 each from the DOLE for their buko products and dress making projects respectively. (PIA-NVizcaya) [top]
