3 killed, 1 rescued in Ilocos Sur drowning incident

MAGSINGAL, Ilocos Sur (October 30) -- Three people were killed and one was rescued in a drowning incident happened last Saturday at the shorelines of Sitio Bantay Buneng, Barangay Mansante, Magsingal, Ilocos Sur. The victims were reportedly taken by strong current of sea water caused by big waves while they were swimming.
Local residents theorized that the strong current of sea water would be caused by “Typhoon Paeng.”
Police identified the three killed victims as Clarissa Otrera, 19, 2nd year nursing student of the Northwestern University of Laoag City; Girlie Bautista Y Barbado, 18, 1st year nursing student of the University of Northern Philippines (UNP); both residents of Barangay, San Ramon Magsingal town; and Regino Ollero, 20, Barangay San Vicente of same town.
The rescued victim was Gretchen Bautista Y Barbado, 15, 4th year high school student of St. William Institute, also residents of Barangay, San Ramon Magsingal town.
Clarissa Otrera was rescued last Saturday by the local folks but she was declared dead on arrival at Magsingal District Hospital. The cadavers of Girlie Bautista, and Regino Ollero were recovered along the shorelines of same place on Sunday afternoon.
The victims were reportedly having a picnic at the beach before the incident was happened. (PIA Ilocos) [top]
