Model OFW family from MP to represent CAR in national competition
Baguio City (30 October) -- The family of Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) Agnes Letecia Marrero of Poblacion, Tadian, Mt. Province will represent the region in the National Competition for the Model OFW Family of the Year Award (MOFYA).
Marrero bested two nominees in the regional selection at the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration - Regional Welfare Office last October 16, 2006.
She was selected to represent the Cordillera Administrative Region based on the stability of her family as attested to by their municipal mayor and barangay chairman and various sector in the community, the education of her children, well-managed savings derived from overseas employment and sustained income from investments
Agnes Letecia Marrero has been an OFW for 15 years as a domestic helper in Hong Kong. She is a religious and well-disciplined person, and an active woman leader in her community. Through her personal resources as well as solicitation efforts, their barangay was able to acquire various equipment and tools for community use.
Letecia is married to Elpecio Marrero. They are blessed with four children who are all gainfully employed.
The first child is the Provincial Accountant in Bontoc, Mt. Province while the second child is an entrepreneur. The only daughter is a graduate of Dentistry and holds private clinic in Tubao, La Union. The youngest is an Executive Dean at the Mt. Province State Polytechnic College, Tadian Campus.
The panel of judges for the Regional Selection was chaired by DOLE-CAR Regional Director, Atty. Anna C. Dione, CPA, co-chaired by OWWA-RWO-CAR officer-in-charge, Leonila DG. Robillos. The members were composed of Linda Tindo, representative from Diocese of Baguio, Jane Rose Teodoro representative from Globe Telecom, Willie Binay-an, land-based OFW representative and Chonan Marasigan, sea-based OFW representative.
The model OFW of the Year Search is a one way of recognizing the achievements of overseas Filipino workers and their families in managing the impact of overseas employment in family life.
