PGMA releases P200-M standby fund for Paeng’s ‘wrath’
Manila (30 October) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has authorized the release of P200M standby fund to help the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) and other concerned agencies’ relief and rehabilitation activities in areas, particularly the Northern Luzon, affected by Supertyphoon Paeng’s wrath.
The Chief Executive made the move through a phone dispatch from China, where she is currently having a state-visit, after securing a situation report from Defense Secretary and NDCC chief Avelino Cruz during the NDCC meeting attended by Vice-President Noli De Castro.
Likewise, the President announced that classes and work is suspended in areas affected by typhoon Paeng.
Recent reports gathered showed that at least eight people died; 300 families were evacuated in Casiguran, Aurora; 215 passengers stranded in Puerto Real, Quezon; Casiguran to Baler, Baler to Bongabon and Nueva Ecija roads impassable due to flooding; while trees were left uprooted, power lines felled, and many house were unroofed by typhoon Paeng.
