NEDA 8 bares infrastructure expansion in second quarter of 2006
Tacloban City (October 30) -- The National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) recently bared the immediate implementation by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) of the Rehabilitation of Maharlika Highway along Tizon-Calbiga Road Section in Samar and Catbalogan North Road along Samar-Leyte Road and the completion of the Buri airport in Catbalogan, Samar.
In a recent Quarterly Regional Situationer presentation, NEDA also noted the growth in the various sectors.
NEDA also listed other accomplishments for the second quarter, including the inauguration of the Cagbayang Bridge in Cagbayang, Calbayog City in June of 2006, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Calbayog City Infres Core Subproject entitled Improvement of Roxas II, Macatingog, Dawo and Bayo Farm-to Market Road and the turn-over of 3.7 hectares comprising 258 subdivision lots to the Provincial Government of Northern Samar by the National Housing Authority which is the answer to the demand of homeless families and employees in the province.
Still in Northern Samar, another development is the construction of the P48 million farm-to-market road which is a component of the Help for Catubig agricultural Advancement Project, a JBIC-funded project aimed to irrigate Catubig Valley, the rice granary of Northern Samar.
Also worth mentioning is the completion of the Jangtud Water System in Northern Samar which will prevent future occurrence of diarrhea outbreak due to unsafe drinking water.
The opening of the new North Bus Terminal located at Abucay, Tacloban City which forecasts increased revenue for the city in terms of terminal feed and will ease the traffic problems of the city aside from paving the way for more economic activities in the city, is another development during the second quarter of this year which NEDA identified.
NEDA 8 also mentioned the establishment of a Satelite Hatchery for Bangus Fingerlings in Sta. Cruz, Tanauan, Leyte which makes bangus fingerling readily available locally and can be procured easily. This hatchery provides adequate bangus fingerlings of uniform size to mariculture investors and fish cage farmers in the region who previously, had to procure their bangus fingerlings from Davao and other sources outside the Region.
Another good development is the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement by the house of Representatives first district of Leyte, the local government units in the first district of Leyte and the Rock Solid Manpower Network and consultancy, Inc. for the prevention of human trafficking and illegal recruitment.
The soft opening of the Tacloban City convention Center on June 28 2006 is another good development for the Region, NEDA 8 reported. (PIA 8)[top]
