DOST conducts one-on-one package label designing

Larena, Siquijor (31 October) -- As part of complete customer and/or client services from product conception to distribution, the DOST conducted a one-on-one product packaging and label designing at DOST Provincial Science and Technology on August 23-25, 2006. DOST Siquijor Provincial Science and Technology staff invited DOST-7 in house designer in the person of Mr. Jun Caberte.

The DOST prioritized clients who are recently assisted by DOST through the Small Enterprises and Technology Upgrading Program (DOST-SETUP) like Renie's Peanuts, Durans Banana Crackers, Jainin's Cakes and Pastries, R& J Homemade Meat Products, Ever's Special Peanuts. Other clients who were recipient of the first batch of the one-on-one packaging and label designing session are Lilo-an's Virgin Coconut Oil, LILAC's Laundry Soap, Canoan's Banana Catsup and Reyna's Squash Noodles.

A one-on-one session was conducted for every client for them to conceptualize the design, to decide the color combination of the packaging material, label design and font style for header type label, sticker and plastic packaging. The clients were all excited to print few copies of the newly designed packaging label design in order to showcase during the Siquijor Day Fairs and Exhibit. The output was sent to DOST 7 for final approval and review by the Regional Technical Evaluation Committee prior to final printing at the printing press.

The technical assistance on product packaging and labeling is just one of the interventions of DOST to SETUP beneficiaries. Other interventions include trainings, equipment acquisition, consultancy services, laboratory analysis to include shelf-life testing and nutrition labeling. The SETUP beneficiary and DOST inked a MOA for all of these interventions. The beneficiary on the other hand should acknowledged the assistance of DOST-SETUP through signage like assisted by DOST with logo and sign board to be displayed in front of the production facility.

The DOST's in-house packaging expert can also help clients produce aye catching labels containing all product information. Good packaging is a protector, not only of the product but also of life itself. Hygiene has improved and deadly diseases have been contained due to packaging.

The DOST Provincial Science and Technology Center envisions to strengthen the over-all competitiveness of Siquijor products, thus enhancing the socio-economic growth of the province. (PIA) [top]
