Capiz prepares for Sinadya sa Halaran '06

Roxas City (31 October) -- The provincial and city governments have started working on the preparations for this year's Sinadya sa Halaran, Capiz's premier festival. The tourism officers of both province and city have initially said they would try to put up a "grand celebration" to make the festival truly reflective of Capiceņo culture and way of life anchored on the time-honored traditions of sharing and thanksgiving.

Provincial Tourism Officer Alfonso Bediones, Jr. said they will be introducing new spectacles in the festivities slated Dec. 5-10 including a new set-up for the products fair, tourism fiesta truck, taekwondo national open, and inauguration of probably one of the tallest flag poles in Western Visayas with an over-sized national flag. Some of the development projects of the administration of Gov. Vicente Bermejo in line with his Ten-Point Agenda.

City Tourism Officer Rodolfo Maestro, Jr. said they will revive the Barangay Night activity in honor of the city's 47 barangays in the coming festival as well as invite popular showbiz personalities to the Artista sa Plaza. There will be two parades, the parade of festivals on Dec. 7 and the civic parade on Dec. 9. The theme of the celebration is "Kon May Paghangpanay, May Kasulhay.

President Arroyo has designated the Central Philippines Super Region as the country's tourism hub among the four super regions that she created as part of her overall national development agenda that seeks to focus economic activities in key areas of the country. (PIA-JSC) [top]
