CICC will be usable by Nov. 15, assures VG Sanchez
Cebu City (31 October) -- Vice Gov. Gregorio Sanchez stressed the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) is usable by November 15 amid skepticism that the facility will not be completed on time for the 12th Asean Summit.
Sanchez during the 888 News Forum this morning at Parklane International Hotel said the site development of the CICC is 97 percent complete as the construction of the edifice is not done through conventional means. The materials used are structural steels and are pre-fabricated so work is faster as everything is just placed in proper order, according to the vice governor.
"As far as the CICC is concerned, my personal view is that it can be used by November 15 and if the summit is to be conducted on Nov. 16, then it is already usable," Sanchez quoted.
The vice governor further said that beyond the November 15 deadline, any works to be done are just minor finishing such as putting of tiles and carpeting as well as adjustments to be corrected.
An issue however cropped up that the CICC needs an additional P200M funding for it to be finished to which Sanchez replied that it is quite unnecessary. "Why do we need an additional P200M budget when only three percent of the CICC remains to be completed?" the vice-governor quipped.
The CICC has a P450-M budget and that the Provincial Government did its best to compress the budget as much as possible during its actual budget deliberation.
Usec. Domingo Lucenaro, acting assistant secretary general for admin matters for the Asean Summit earlier disclosed that the CICC will host some side meetings although the main Leaders' Meeting will be done in Shangri-la Mactan Island Resort.
Sanchez also bared a plan to hold an Asean Trade and Exposition at the CICC where participating nations will showcase the best of their products by first to second quarter of next year. (PIA-Cebu/FCR) [top]
