Region 8 legislators train on comprehensive traffic code formulation

Tacloban City (October 31) -- The provincial, city and municipal legislators will undergo a comprehensive seminar workshop on the Comprehensive Traffic Code Formulation cum Transport Educational Immersion Tour on November 20 - 23.

Regional Director William C. Paler of the Department of Interior and Local Government informed that in order to address local government units' problems on the devolved functions on traffic management and franchising, the Land Transportation Office Region 8, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Regional Office 8 and the Philippine Councilors' League, Leyte Chapter have initiated joint efforts to assist the local government units in the formulation of the much-needed Uniform Comprehensive Traffic code for their respective areas of jurisdiction.

LTO Director Raul Aguilos informed that the activity will have two parts. The first phase, Director Aguilos said, will be a workshop which will be held at the MacArthur Park Beach Resort at Baras, Palo, Leyte on November 20-21 while the second phase will be the transport educational immersion tour on November 22-23 at selected areas in Metro Manila.

He said that the Seminar Workshop is the second which will be conducted this year. The first batch was held in the early part of this year.

In his Regional Memo Circular, Director Paler enjoined the Provincial Governors, the City and Municipal Mayors to send in at least one participant from their respective Sanggunians preferably the chairman of the Sanggunian Committee on Transportation and communication, Public Utilities and or Franchising, or its equivalent committee.

Director Paler added that the payment of the registration fee in the amount of Eight Thousand Five Hundred Pesos (P8,500.00) will be collected to cover seminar expenses like training kits, board and lodging and food and traveling allowance for air fare of participants from Tacloban city to Metro Manila and vice versa.

This, Director Paler said may be authorized, chargeable against local funds, subject to the availability thereof and to the usual accounting and auditing requirements and to all pertinent laws, rules and regulations. (PIA 8) [top]
