Tagalog News: Pilipinas pinapurihan ng mga bansa

Koronadal, South Cotabato (6 November) -- Inihayag ni Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Lauro Baja, Jr. na ang Pilipinas ay pinapurihan ng mga developed at developing countries sa pagkapanalo nito sa eleksiyon sa United Nations Economic and Social Council (Ecosoc) kamakailan. Ang ECOSOC ay isa sa anim (6) na mga principal world body organizations.

Nanguna ang Pilipinas sa may labing-walong (18) bagong miyembro sa may 54 council members. Nakapagtala ito ng 188 of 192 na boto at mayroong 3 abstentions o ang mga hindi bumuto at may isang di sumang-ayon.

Ito ang kauna-unahang pagkakataon na nanguna ang Pilipinas sa major world organization. Inaasahan naman ang tatlong (3) taong pagsapi nito sa ika 1 ng Enero sa susunod na taon.

Ang ECOSOC ay magsisilbing central forum para pag-usapan ang mga isyu sa international economic at social issues, gayundin ang pagsasagawa ng ng mga policy recommendations para sa miyembro at buong United Nation system. (ajph/PIA 12) [top]
