Tagalog News: Coal mining sa Brgy. Ned, Lake Sebu, pinabulaanan ng DOE

Koronadal, South Cotabato (15 November) -- Inihayag ng Department of Energy (DOE) na walang nangayaring coal mining sa Barangay Ned, Lake Sebu, South Cotabato.

Ito ay kinumperma ni Engr. Ruel Malapitan, DOE Manila representative, sa unang joint meeting ng Provincial Development Council, Sangguniang Panlalawigan at Sangguniang Bayan na isinagawa sa PROTECH Center, lungsod ng Koronadal.

Ayon kay Engr. Malapitan, ang inisyu lamang ng DOE ay exploration permits lamang, kabaliktaran sa lumalabas na impormasyong mayroong coal mining development at production activities sa nasabing Barangay.

Inihayag din ng DOE na ang South Cotabato ay may kakayahang magbigay ng 100 metric tons ng lignite coal.

Kinumperma din ng Daguma Agro-Minerals, Inc., MG Mining & Energy Corp., at 2 pang kompanya na nagsasagawa ng exploration sa Ned, Lake Sebu, South Cotabato, na kung sila'y bibigyan ng permiso upang magsagawa ng coal development at production, abot sa 2 milyong metric tons bawat taon ang makukuhang lignite coal sa naturang lugar.

Ang coal development at production diumano ay magbibigay din libo-libong trabaho para sa mga mamamayan at mahigit sa P70 million na investments bawat taon.

Nagpahiwatig naman pagkabahala ang representante ng National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) kung sakaling magsagawa ng mining activities sa area. Aniya, ang Brgy Ned, Lake Sebu, sa ilalim ng regional use plan, ay isang "water shed area".

Samantala, nagsagawa naman kahapon ng isang consultative meeting sa pangunguna ng ahensiya ng NEDA kasama ang mga concerned agencies tulad ng DENR, DAR, National Commission on Indigenous People at ng DOE upang mapag-usapan ang mining controversy sa lugar. (PIA 12) [top]
