Tagalog News: Arroyo nangakong panindigan ang press freedom

Koronadal, South Cotabato (17 November) -- Nangako si Pangulong Arroyo na paninindigan niya ang press freedom sa gitna ng mga haka-haka na government crackdown sa mga journalists na sumasalungat sa kanyang administrasyon.

Ang Pangulo ay siyang guest speaker sa 32nd top level management conference of the Kapisanan ng Broadkaster ng Pilipinas o KBP.

Aniya, ang kanyang pamunuan ay hindi naging pabaya sa kanyang tungkulin na tugunan ang mga pagpaslang sa mga putiko at mga mamamahayag. Kanyang pinabulaanan na ang pamahalaan ay nagsisikap na patahimikin ang mga mamamahayag. Ayon sa kanya, ang pulisya ay nakapag aresto ng 10 suspetsado sangkot sa media killings. Dagdag pa nito, binuo ng Malacañang ang Melo Commission upang mag-imbestiga sa mga pagpaslang.

Umapila naman ang Pangulo sa mga media na maging mas responsable at mahalaga na sila at ang gobyerno ay magtulungan. (PIA 12) [top]
