PIA Press Release

Region 8 conducts 11th regional health research forum

Tacloban City (December 8) -- The Regional Health Research and Development Committee in Region (RHRDC-8) will conduct the 11th Regional Health Research Forum on December 13, 2006 at Ritz Tower de Leyte.

Director Benita Pastor of the Department of Health (DOH) Region 8 who is the Chairperson of the Executive Committee of the RHRDC-8 informed that the forum serves as a venue for dissemination of results from completed researches in health and health related issues.

Director Pastor added that the Forum is likewise an occasion to meet researchers, policy and decision makers, press representatives and other sectors.

The forum program will consist of presentations of research papers, Director Pastor revealed. She added that nine papers are scheduled to be presented with each presentation to be followed by an open forum.

The forum will be attended by research presentors, other researchers and the members of the committee from the different government and non-government agencies including the academe.

The Regional Health Research and Development provides the Region a unified focus and strategies to achieve regional development with the functioning of an efficient and effective health research system.

Consequenly, an efficient and effective RHRDC serves to unify and bind the different key players and stakeholders of the Region’s health research activities in one system.

Although there may be semantic differences in defining a Regional health research system, its goals and functions, there is a concordance that the health research system is composed of individuals, organizations and institutions which utilize research to improve or enhance the health and the quality of life of populations.

“At this time when resources are dwindling and inequities worsening, there is a need to assess ourselves so we can altogether as a unified Region 8 health research system, "get our acts together’, mobilize and share resources. Only by doing so can we as one health research system, efficiently and effectively use research as a tool to improve of our people’s health and quality of life,” Director Pastor said. (PIA 8) [top]
