Comelec ready for plebiscite on Charter change - official
Quezon City (9 December) -- THE COMMISSION on Elections (Comelec) is a "ready" for a plebiscite on Charter change and that there will be "little adjustments" if this will be carried out, a Comelec official said Friday.
"We're ready for a plebiscite, there will be little adjustments. We already have supplies, people have been trained, there is a budget," said Comelec commissioner Nicodemo Ferrer.
But the poll body is still waiting for the transitory provisions, said Ferrer, referring to the amendments in the 1987 Constitution that will be deliberated on and finalized by Congress in a constituent assembly that will be convened next week.
In the meantime, Ferrer said, "We don't know what to do."
Ferrer said that until then, the Comelec was still "bound by the present Constitution."
He referred to the May 14 elections of officials in the local and national levels.
Ferrer is encouraging the people to register ahead of the deadline on December 31. (PIA) [top]
