Region 8 Army observes human rights consciousness week

Tacloban City (December 10) -— The 8th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army based at Camp Lukban, Maulong, Catbalogan, Samar joined the nation in the observance of the Human Rights Consciousness Week on December 04 to 10.

Major General Rodrigo Maclang said that in answer to the call of the Human Rights Commission Region 8, his division observed the celebration of Human Rights Consciousness Week. This he said is pursuant to Republic Act 9201 and to the proclamation by the Universal Declaration on Human Rights.

In coordination with the Human Rights Commission, General Maclang said that the first day of the week-long celebration started with a flag-raising ceremony held at Camp Lukban at 8:00 o’clock in the morning of December 04.

As prescribed by the Commission on Human Rights, the Panata sa Karapatang Pantao was recited by the organic members, enlisted personnel and civilian employees alike. This, according to General Maclang, is a gesture to underscore the important truth that everyone have human rights, regardless of color or creed and situation in life.

For the government troopers, the primary objective of this activity is to remind individuals never to take Human Rights for granted. In fact, the reason why the government troopers are in the field is to ensure that Human Rights are respected and not violated.

This year’s theme, “Karapatang Pantao: Susi ng Kapayapaan, Katarungan at Kaunlaran,” mirrors the very objectives of the Armed Forces of the Philippines in Region 8.

General Maclang said that true development will be felt in Region 8 only when justice and peace are achieved by each and every citizen respecting Human Rights. (PIA 8) [top]
