BONTOC, Mt. Province (16 December) -- The Sangguniang Panlalawigan headed by Vice Governor Benjamin Dominguez approved recently a resolution earnestly requesting the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) thru Technical Education Skills Development Authority(TESDA) Secretary Augusto "Boboy' Syjuco, to fund the establishment of a training center of excellence in the province.
Melita Pinic of TESDA-Mt. Province said while poverty is still the greatest obstacle in acquiring education in the country, a new and fast-growing predicament has recently stymied the educational system- structural unemployment which involves a mismatch between the actual qualifications and competencies of workers looking for jobs, and the qualifications and competencies that industries and companies require for available vacancies.
In Mt. Province, one problem encountered by college graduates is unemployment. One possible solution to this is to provide relevant high quality technical education and skills development, affordable to our youth and responsive to global needs.
Pinic said the construction of a center of excellence in the province will address the lack of adequate service providers in the hinterlands. (PIA-MP) [top]
