Tagalog News: 18 smuggled cars winasak

Manila (17 August) -- Upang maipakita ang determinasyon ng gobyerno sa paghuli ng mga smuggled machineries at pagsawata ng smuggling cases, winasak at dinurog sa pangangasiwa ng mga concerned officials ang labingwalong (18) mamahaling smuggled cars sa Naval Supply Depot sa Subic Bay Freeport, Zambales.

Gamit ang tatlong backhoes at isang forklift, agad nadurog ang labingwalong (18) smuggled cars na nagkakahalaga ng P30-M. Itoy kinabibilangan ng Lincoln Navigator, BMW z35i (7series), Star Craft van, Mitsubishi Pajero junior, Mitsubishi GTO sports car, Nissan Serena, dalawang Hyundai Grandeur, dalawang Toyota Estima, apat na Toyota Emina at apat na BMW X5 series.

Ayon kay Finance Secretary Margarito Teves, hindi sinang-ayunan ni Pangulong Gloria Arroyo ang pagsubasta sa mga nasabing sasakyan upang madagdagan ang buwis ng pamahalaan. Kung magkaganoon, dagdag ni Teves, isang tagumpay para sa mga smugglers dahil ang domestic car manufacturing industry, na nagbabayad ng buwis para sa mga sasakyan, ang makikinabang sa crackdown ng smuggling activities.

Kasabay nito, nagpahayag ng pagsuporta ang ilang concerned agencies sa kampanya ng pamahalaan sa pagsira ng mga kagamitang ipinuslit at pagsawata ng smuggling operations ng bansa. (ajph/PIA 12) [top]
