Tagalog News: Pilipinas isinusulong ang pandaigdigang alituntunin ng biotech trade

Manila (2 October) -- Mariing isinusulong ng Pilipinas ang pagbuo ng mga alituntunin na magsisilbing gabay sa paglabas at pag-angkat ng genetically modified (GM) products.

Sinabi ni Director Ernelea Cao ng National Science Research Institute (NSRI) ng UP na ang Pilipinas ay nagging aktibo sa pag-ambag ng inputs sa CAC na siyang naghahanda ng guidelines kaugnay ng international biotech trade.

Si Director Cao ay kintawan ng Pilipinas sa Codex ah hoc intergovernment task force para sa pagkaing bunga o resulta ng biotechnology.

Ayon kay Cao, aktibo ang Pilipinas sa pagbibigay ng inputs sa lubusang paggamit ng benepisyong dulot ng biotechnology trade sa hinaharap. Ang Pilipinas ang kasalukuyang umaangkat ng GM products tulad ng soybeans.

Nauna nang ipinaliwanag naman ni International Grain Trade Coalition consultant Paul Green na ang mga guidelines na siyang magsisilbing gabay sa international trade ng GM products ay makakatulong sa paghadlang ng kakulangan sa pahkain bunsod ng iba't-ibang kadahilanan tulad ng pagtaas ng demand ng biofuel.
