Tagalog News: Minor offenders maaari nang makalaya - DILG chief Puno

Manila (2 October) -- Inihayag ni Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Ronaldo Puno na maaari ng makalaya ang lahat ng "children-in-conflict-with-the-law" o (CICL) na kasalukuyang naka detini sa mga municipal at city jails sa bansa.

Ang DILG na kasapi ng Juvenile Justice Welfare Council (JJWC) at nilikha sa ilalim ng Republic Act 9344 ay inatasang tumulong sa pag-inventory ng mga CICL sa lahat ng mga provincial jails at PNP detention cells.

Batay sa June report ng Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, isang daan at labing-apat (114) na mga CICL ang pinalaya alinsunod sa direktiba ni Pangulong Arroyo habang mayroon pang mahigit limang daan (500) mga CICL ang nakadetini sa iba't ibang jail facilities sa bansa at kasalukuyang inaayos ang kanilang mga release papers.

Nakatuon ang Republic Act 9344 sa pagtugon at agarang pagpapalaya sa mga CICL at upang mabigyang ng kaalaman sa iba't ibang aspeto, isasailalim din ang mga nasabing minor offenders sa ilang diversion programs tulad ng counseling, capacity building, training and socio-civic work sa pamamahala ng Department of Social Welfare and Developemt (DSWD).
