Police official allays fears of foreigners over death of their pals

Vigan City (October 5) -- A ranking police official assured the safety of all foreigners in Ilocos Region after the death of two German nationals in a separate stabbing incidents in San Juan and Bauang towns in La Union this quarter.
Senior Superintendent Marvin Bolabola, Regional Chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), said Friday the two incidents were isolated cases. The incidents have had something to do with personal angle based on the statement of the witnesses.
"We assured the safety of all the foreign nationals in the region as we gave them protection through police visibility and creating them a direct link to the lawmen in case of emergency," Bolabola said.
He disclosed that they had already a lead to identify the suspects in the twin murder incidents.
It was recalled that one Eberhard Rust, 67, a German national, was found dead inside his residential house in Montemar Subdivision, San Juan, La Union on July 7, 2007. His cadaver was about to decompose when it was discovered by residents and policemen. Medical experts said that the victim, who was reportedly last seen on July 4, 2007 by his neighbor, had sustained multiple stab wounds causing his instant death.
In another incident, Heinz Dziengle,65, also German national, was stab to death by unidentified suspect at his residence in Barangay Pugo, Bauang, La Union in the following month after the death of Rust. (PIA Ilocos Sur) [top]
