PIA Press Release

P.5-M sales targeted by Bagumbal OTOP producers' fair

by MC Dayaan

Cotabato City (10 October) -- Bagumbal 2007 targets to generate P.5 Million sales when it launches the One Town One Product (OTOP) Producers' Fair in October 24-31, 2007 at the Southseas Mall here.

In addition to generating sales worth P500 thousand, the fair also aims to link producers with institutional buyers from other regions in Mindanao; generate 35 SMEs-participants; introduce of new technology and information; promote culture and tourism of the city/regions and to celebrate Consumer Welfare Month.

Bagumbal is a Maguindanaon vernacular which means "to produce." The Fair shall hence be participated in by mainly producers of various food products and crafts from Cotabato City and its environs from the ARMM as well as those from General Santos City and the provinces of North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and Sarangani. Most of these are OTOP producers.

In an organizers' meeting called by the Department of Trade & Industry recently, the group agreed to target half million sales for the enterprise-participants.

DTI-12 Business Development Division chief Nelly Nita Dillera said, institutional buyers shall be invited to make sure that the target sales is realized. Initially, it has already gotten the nod of buyers from big malls of the cities of Davao, Koronadal, General Santos and Cotabato to participate in a Business Matching.

The Business Matching, Dillera emphasized, would match the mall requirement or demand with what the OTOP producers can supply. "Our local products can possibly be retailed in these malls. As such, local SMEs are assured of regular and long-term orders which would in effect boil down to business expansion, jobs creation and investments generation which is the bottomline of the DTI," Dillera added.

Bagumbal OTOP Producers Fair shall also feature side events like Seminars and Training programs on production of Corn Husk Novelty Items, Candle Making, Meat and Fruit Processing, Organic Farming, Securing Business Permits and Product Development services like Brand Name Development, Trademark Registration, Bar Coding, BFAD Registration and Mandatory Label Requirement.

Considering that October is Consumer Welfare Month, activities related to this shall also be organized. Among which are Orientation of Consumer Welfare Desk Officers, Customer Relations Seminar and Consumer Quiz Bee which shall be participated in by Secondary School students of the City.

The Bagumbal OTOP Producers' Fair's Technical Working Group is composed of government and non-government entities. (PIA-12) [top]
