PGMA grants P.5M to NGO in Cebu

Cebu, Philippines (21 October) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo awarded an NGO here in Cebu with a P585,000 cash incentives in support to the growth of local micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) through the provision of alternative sources of employment via income generating livelihood and skills training programs.
OPTIONS (Outreach Program on Trainings, Integrated Organizing and Networking for Solidarity, Inc.) through its treasurer/education officer, Virgincita Villanueva received a check worth P292,500 as the first tranche of the grant during the recent PGMA's visit in Cebu.
The cash incentives was sourced out from the President's Social Fund and this is intended for the continued implementation of OPTIONS' educational and livelihood programs and for its documentary requirement for job placements of employment hopefuls.
According to Villanueva, OPTIONS has more than 500 registered beneficiaries from barangay Cambaru, Mandaue City. Part of the presidential cash grant is intended for the educational assistance to 100 special and working children in Mandaue City as well as micro-financing the livelihood projects of their parents.
Villanueva added, parents of the children that are registered beneficiaries of OPTIONS can borrow an initial amount of P3000 as their seed capital with very minimal interests.
Other amounts are set aside for documentary requirements for youths that are applying for jobs whether local or abroad. They can visit OPTIONS and borrow P1000 or more for their documentation needs. They are expected to pay back the amount when they are employed.
With Villanueva were students Juvelyn Pacana and Dante Somallo and also Elizabeth Montecalbo representing the parents of the children that are assisted by OPTIONS. They received the check that was handed by the President at the Capitol Social Hall during the President's visit in Cebu as special guest of Governor Gwen Garcia on her 52nd birthday. (PIA-Cebu) [top]
