LAGAWE, Ifugao (29 October) -- In line with the celebration of consumer month, the Provincial Consumer Net Council conducted a series of symposia on consumer rights in some schools here.
Led by the Department of Education (DepEd), the team who had been conducting similar activities in the past years, has targeted school children this year.
DepEd Supervisor Judith Guyguyon said that the school children are good medium of information because they can impart the information they hear from the different speakers to their parents and the community.
The Department of Trade and Industry spoke on consumerism, price tag law, labeling of goods and other similar concerns, while the Bureau of Internal Revenue lectured on the importance of claiming receipts when buying goods or paying services.
On the other hand, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources informed the kids regarding construction materials sold at hardware which are taken from the environment such as plywood and the National Food Authority talked on the prices of rice and identifying NFA outlets.
In spite the shortage of rice these months, NFA rice is still at P18/kg while the commercial rice is sold at P25-29 depending on the variety.
The speakers advised the children to be vigilant and report anomalies of business establishments to authorities. (PIA Ifugao) [top]
